To celebrate the
city’s annual public art project, the Ritzville Downtown Development
Association will host its first Historic Ritzville Days Western Art
Show on Memorial Day weekend.
An Artists’ Reception
and People’s Choice Award judging will occur on Friday, May 25, at 6
p.m. in downtown Ritzville. The Historic Ritzville Days Western Art
Show will be held on Saturday, May 26, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in
Pioneer Plaza at the intersection of Main Avenue and Washington
Street.
The event will include
live entertainment, food and a variety of activities. A Best of Show
Award will be presented to the artist with with the best collection
of their art, presented in an appealing manner.
Currently six lifesize
metal sculptures are located throughout the city. Last year the
Ritzville Downtown Development Association, in partnership with the
City of Ritzville, launched a new project to commission one new
metal sculpture each year. The sculptures are intended to have
historical connection to the city, its forefathers and the
agricultural industry that surrounds the city.
The newest sculpture
will be unveiled Saturday morning, May 26, as part of the Historic
Ritzville Days celebration. The art show is a new addition to the
activities that focus on celebrating the history of the city and its
people. The Ritzville High School Alumni Association hosts its
annual Alumni Banquet on the same Saturday night. The event
typically attracts 400-600 alumni and spouses back to the city.
The Historic Ritzville
Days Western Art Show is open to all artists. The Ritzville Downtown
Development Association is inviting artists to participate in the
show free of charge. Advanced registration is required. The art show
is intended to help celebrate the annual public art project and
attract attention to the city’s efforts to revitalize its downtown
through the use of art.
The deadline to
register for the show is Friday, May 18. For information, or to
obtain an application, please contact Stephen McFadden at (509)
659-1020 during the day or (509) 659-0669 in the evenings and via
